TOOLS OF THE TRADE
Antique Imagery distributes clip art samples as SHAREWARE. This means
you may try-before-you-buy and may share these samples with friends,
use them in your business, or modify as desired during an evaluation
period. The SHAREWARE marketing concept allows users to evaluate
software products and then decide to either REGISTER the copy or
DISCONTINUE using it. If, after a 30 day evaluation, you DO wish use
these images, we require a $15 (+ $3 S/H) registration fee per disk.
To register simply fill in the form at the bottom of this document and
return to the address below. Upon registration you will receive
1) A free registration disk of your choice.
2) A catalogue of available disks and image collections.
3) Recommendations for image viewing and editing programs.
4) Notification when new disks/libraries become available.
All Images captured from original documents on a Super VGA
monitor using 256 grays. This means you may use them with Paint
programs, Windows, etc. An image that fills the standard VGA
display (640 X 480 pixels) will print out on a 300 dpi printer at
only about 2-1/8" X 1-5/8". When working with graphic images you
need to remember that the display (Monitor) usually has a much
LOWER resolution than the printer, hence the image will appear
LARGER on the monitor. You must have a VGA monitor (or better), a
"paint program", image viewer or desktop publishing package to
see or use these images on-screen. Typical laser printers print
at 300 dpi, so the enclosed files are well suited for use on a
laser printer, but any graphics-capable printer will do. The
files are high resolution so you may enlarge, shrink or distort
the images with good results. The shareware files represent
sample members from our various image libraries.
FILE NAMES describe the contents: Hammer03 is a hammer of some sort;
Gun12 is a gun; Bike15 is a bike, etc. A printed catalogue of the
various collections and disk file names is available to registered
users.
Unless otherwise indicated all distribution disks are supplied on DOS
formatted 1.44 (high density) 3-1/2 diskettes, in the popular "PCX"
file format, 10 images per disk. You will need to use software
capable of viewing and manipulating PCX files. Other file formats
available are TIF and GIF. Besides using MS DOS formatted disks, we
can supply files on high density MAC format disks as well.
Each DISK in our collection is called a volume, and contains 10
individual image files. Each VOLUME is a grouping of similar images
(Hammers, Vises, etc.) Each LIBRARY is a set of volumes (Tools of the
Trade, Home Arts, etc.) Typically, a LIBRARY has at least 10 disks and
a minimum of 100 images.
Libraries Catalogued and Available: Tools of the Trade, Home Arts

Note that the files supplied as shareware could be SMALLER in size
than their typical reg. disk counterparts. When we distribute the
files via online services or BBS's the files are sometimes down sized
to allow a smaller distribution file. Our registered versions of the
same files may be somewhat larger overall. Registered distribution
disks are NOT zipped.
ZIP FILES
Online services and BBS's which honor the SHAREWARE concept often use
ZIP files for storage and distribution. These ZIPs are special kinds
of files which were created using a utility called PKZIP (tm, PKWARE,
Inc.) This great utility allows a person to combine any number of
individual files in a compressed manner within a single file. When a
user wants to use files contained within a ZIP he/she simply UNZIP's
the ZIP file and the original files pop out, good as new. It's usually
easy to identify these compressed files because the file's name ends
with "ZIP". A Zip file is not executable an must be UNZIPPED before
the originals can be used.
We often send out files named "IMAGRY1.ZIP" or "TOOLS2.ZIP". (I know,
it's spelled rong!) These ZIPs contain the individual "PCX" image
files along with a README file and misc. other stuff. To EXTRACT files
from a ZIP you can use PKUNZIP, also from PKWARE. If you're working
on a file named IMAGRY1.ZIP the basic command to extract the
individual files would be PKUNZIP IMAGRY1
At that point the files contained within IMAGRY1.ZIP would hop out
onto your disk (hard disk, hopefully). If PKUNZIP is located in a
directory named C:\UTIL and your Antique Imagery disk is in drive A:
you'd need to do the following commands to unZip the files.
COMMAND INTERPRETATION
--------- --------------
C: <ENTER> Log onto the C: drive on hard disk
CD \UTIL <ENTER> Change to \UTIL subdirectory
PKUNZIP A:IMAGRY1 <ENTER> Run PKUNZIP on file A:IMAGRY1.Zip
If you DO NOT HAVE the file named PKUNZIP.EXE you will NOT be able to
unZip a Zip file. It's important to have this utility and we suggest
you order a copy for $25 from the address below. (Note that our
registered disks are NOT shipped zipped.) Get the Zip utilities from
PKWARE, INC.
7545 N. Port Washington Rd.
Glendale, WI 53217
Some online services or BBS's allow you to download a shareware copy
of PKZIP and PKUNZIP for evaluation purposes.
Antique Imagery will assemble special collections for educators,
corporations, collectors, public agencies, clubs, graphic artists,
military, and service organizations. We have access to images of all
sorts and when the CD ROM market settles out we'll offer images on CD
ROM disks.
DISK VENDORS- Contact our office for resale information. Please do not
resell these ZIP sampler disks without our written permission.
We are always interested in purchasing old documents that contain
images suitable for our collection. It's not at all unusual to
pay $50 for excellent materials of this nature, so please contact our
office if you would like to sell ORIGINALS books, catalogs, trade
magazines, etc.
Compuserve ID is 73020,263

ANTIQUE IMAGERY BOX 6520 SAN MATEO, CA 94403 (415) 592-1515
Antique Imagery is a division of San Mateo Software.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. Please
find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's
commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes finding software
easy, because you can try before you buy. Shareware has the ultimate
money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the product, you don't pay
for it.
DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT
Users of Antique Imagery's image files must accept this disclaimer of
warranty: "Everything is supplied as is. The author disclaims all
warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation, the
warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose. The
author assumes no liability for damages, direct or consequential,
which may result from the use of these images."
These samples are shareware and are provided at no charge to the user
for evaluation. The essence of "user-supported" software is to provide
personal computer users with quality software without high prices, and
yet to provide incentive for programmers to continue to develop new
products. If you find these images useful and find that you are using
them after a reasonable trial period of 30 days, you must make a
registration payment to Antique Imagery. The registration fee will
license one copy for use on any one computer at any one time. You
must treat this software just like a book. An example is that this
software may be used by any number of people and may be freely moved
from one computer location to another, so long as there is no
possibility of it being used at one location while it's being used at
another. Just as a book cannot be read by two different people at the
same time.
Anyone distributing Antique Imagery's files for remuneration must
first contact us for authorization. This authorization will no doubt
be granted to distributors recognized by the ASP as adhering to its
guidelines for shareware distributors, and such distributors may begin
offering these images upon authorization.
You are encouraged to pass a copy of these files along to your friends
for evaluation. Please ask them to register their copy if they find
them useful.
